What’s Your Self-Love Language?

This year, I’ve reflected a lot on the way I show and receive love. ‘Love language’ is something I learned when met my current partner, I read about how there are five love languages: words of affirmation, receiving gifts, quality time, physical touch, or acts of service.

This love language conversation got me thinking…what if self-love language is a thing? The way I show love to myself is so important and it’s actually completely different than how I show love to my partner, so I wanted to come up with a little guide to help you find your self-love language.

Words of affirmation: If you’re always talking to yourself in the car and giving yourself little pep talks throughout the day, this may be your self-love language!

What to do: Write out positive affirmations on sticky notes and paste it on your mirror to read everyday. Repeat after me: I AM BEAUTIFUL. I AM STRONG. I AM WORTHY.

Receiving Gifts: This is me! I feel my best when I buy myself a new outfit that accentuates my curves. If you get a confidence boost when you spoil yourself, this is you!

What to do: Make a budget and spend wisely! Always have a small rainy day fund for those days where you just need a little black dress to improve your mind state!

Quality Time: If your idea of a good time is a relaxing bubble bath and a glass of wine, this is your self-love language!

What to do: What feels like quality time to you? Is it a long warm bath? Is it a cheesy romantic comedy? Whatever it is, UNPLUG and do it!

Physical Touch: Partner not needed! Physical touch self-love does not come from another person it comes from YOU. Understanding that your physical body has functions other than beauty, is key.

What to do: If there’s a specific area of your body you’re not happy with do this: Place your hands over the area and say out loud why you appreciate it. Here’s an example “Thighs, I love you for allowing me to walk. I love you for being strong. I love you for carrying my weight all these years.”

Acts of Service: You know those busy Saturday mornings where you have a million chores to do? Do you get home and appreciate yourself more? Do you feel like a total badass after? If yes, this is you!

What to do: Do something for YOU. Make a list of things you want to accomplish that day. Once you’re done appreciate yourself for accomplishing what you needed to do!

If you’re unsure of which is your Self-love language, try all five and see which one works best for you!
